2021 sees the Lismore Lantern Parade celebrate 27 years  of bringing light to the heart of our community, in 2019 we celebrated our 25th anniversary,  thousands and thousands of people lined the streets and cheered the parade as it danced along. What a wonderful night!
 

Many of this year’s students’ parents were probably at school themselves when the parade first started - what a wonderful inter-generational heritage we have created for our community!

In 2020 we missed so many of you when we were hit by the global pandemic, but we were there in the heart of the city with lantern installations, little parades in place and 100s of people participating on line in the Virtual Lantern Parade.

This year we are back, and excited to be moving to a new venue The LISMORE SHOWGROUND.

 

We love the participation of so many schools in the lantern parade, it is a special moment in the lives of the children in our community, when they can proudly walk along in front of thousands of happy faces carrying the beautiful lantern they created themselves.

 

This year we have a new lantern design- a bee, as a nod to the event we couldn't have last year, as well as the traditional star, diamond and pyramid, which is recommended for younger grades, and we will also deliver diamonds and pyramids to you as pre-made lanterns. You need to register here to book your workshop/s.

(More than one workshop or lantern design will require separate Registrations, sorry)

 

Of course, there are lots of other ways to participate in the parade and the festival itself, such as running a fundraising stall at the Market deLight, or providing activities in the KidsArtFest. Make up a percussion band to walk in the parade. Or you could perform in the Fiery Finale! You are really only limited by your imagination. Send us an email and let us know what you want to do.

 

Every year it seems we have to change something - flooded park-lands, renovated sports fields, always something. We love the challenge of change it keeps us all on our toes. And this year is no exception, and we are very excited. Due to COVID Health Orders the whole event is moving to the Lismore SHOWGROUNDS . We will be selling general tickets to the  festival - on sale in May and limited to 5,000! We understand that participants in the lantern parade are not included in this number, it is still to be confirmed..

 

The parade and finale will be held within the Showground arena, and parade participants will have a reserved area around one side with some bleachers and a small grandstand - no nice grassy area for rugs - sorry. If you have purchased a lantern you will receive two festival tickets. One for the lantern maker and one adult for entry into the festival, the arena for the parade & to watch the finale. Grandstand and general entry tickets will be available online NOW.
